For a lot of pet owners, bringing home a new pet means bringing home a kitten or puppy. The boundless energy. The training. The cuteness. The playfulness.
All too often, the senior pets get overlooked and they stay in shelters longer; people often see senior pets as unadoptable. However, older pets still have a lot of love to offer and there can be a lot of benefits to adopting an older pet:
- Older pets are already full grown, so you know exactly what to expect in terms of personality, grooming needs, and size.
- Older pets have matured and have more consistent energy levels. They are usually calmer and might be easier to add to your home.
- Older pets deserve second chances and can be a loving addition to your family.
If you are considering adding a pet to your family, consider a senior pet.
Check out our website or stop by Crossroads Animal Shelter to see if there is a senior animal who could join your family. If you are unable to adopt, consider becoming a foster to help get a senior in a less stressful environment or sign up to volunteer at the shelter and spend time with some senior animals.
